Then you may have picked up and handed in your application at a post office. But the US Postal Service will not process your request. All passport applications are received, reviewed, and approved (or not) by the US Department of State.
A US passport proves American citizenship and allows Americans to visit other countries and re-enter the United States.
There are approximately 9,000 passport offices in the United States where you can apply, including post offices, public libraries, and county and city governments.
The design and personal information contained in passports has changed over the years. Today’s passports contain a photo of the passport holder, date and place of birth and a chip with all this information. The chip enables the electronic reading of the passport and also makes it more difficult to forge the passport. Adult passports are valid for 10 years. Passports for children under the age of 16 are valid for 5 years.
