Welcoming the ceasefire agreement in Israel and Gaza
The United States today welcomes the agreement on a ceasefire to end hostilities in Israel and Gaza. We extend our condolences to the families of the civilians killed and injured in the violence.
The United States recognizes Egypt’s critical role in brokering the ceasefire agreement that will prevent further loss of civilian life. We also recognize Qatar’s strong efforts to de-escalate the situation and end hostilities, and the international community’s support for the ceasefire. Our team has worked tirelessly with our partners to support this effort.
The United States reaffirms our ironclad commitment to Israel’s security, reflected in our continued support for Iron Dome and other Israeli missile defense systems. We will continue to work with our partners to bring peace of mind over the coming weeks and months. We will continue our efforts to improve the quality of life of the Palestinians and urge the speedy delivery of fuel and other essential supplies to Gaza. The United States believes that both Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live securely and enjoy freedom, prosperity and democracy equally.
