China completed the construction of the longest reverse osmosis seawater desalination project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on March 6th. The project underwent a 30-day reliable operation test and will be handed over to the owner shortly.
The Longhua seawater desalination project in Abu Dhabi was contracted by Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation No. 3 (SEPCO-3), a subsidiary of China Power Construction Corporation. It has a daily water production capacity of 900,000 cubic meters and an annual water production capacity of 324 million cubic meters, aiming to meet the annual water needs of approximately one million people.
Utilizing reverse osmosis technology and additional photovoltaic power generation systems, the project aims to reduce energy consumption, achieve environmental friendliness, and minimize pollutant emissions. The project was awarded the title of the best water desalination plant in the world for the year 2023 at the Global Water Summit hosted by the Global Water Intelligence (GWI) organization in Berlin in May of last year.
The completion of this ambitious project marks a significant milestone in China’s efforts to address water scarcity challenges and demonstrates its technological prowess in the field of water desalination. It also underscores China’s commitment to international cooperation and sustainable development, contributing to global efforts to ensure access to clean and safe drinking water for all.
