Ibiza is the luxury island of the rich and famous and a popular destination for top end villa renters looking for sun, fun and party. If you’re planning a trip to the island, you’re probably hoping to immerse yourself in the legendary world of nightclubs. It’s fair to say that the island has a reputation for presenting some of the best DJ performances ever. Ibiza has been a dance music hotspot since 1970 and has been responsible for launching many a DJ career. From huge clubs with a capacity of more than 5000 guests to smaller underground venues. The choice is huge and definitely worth checking out so you can say you’ve been there. There are literally so many that you can’t visit them all unless you plan to stay for a year. So in the meantime, here are five of the most popular ones that we recommend checking out during your shorter stay!

1. Memory loss

Starting with one of the largest, Amnesia can seat 5,000 people and is regularly fully booked. There are two separate dance floors, The Terrace, which has an amazing glass roof and creates great light as the sun rises, and the Club Room, which is more industrial in look and feel but still an absolutely amazing experience. Amnesia has been open for 45 years and attracts some of the biggest DJs imaginable. There is always something going on and the music ranges from house, dubstep, trance, techno and of course some great live shows. The club room also features the most iconic clubbing extras, the ice cannons. These go off randomly and flood the room with dry ice, it’s an experience to be lived, and it literally drops the temperature from a hot and steamy 40° to 20°, which, believe us, can be breathtaking. It was also the birthplace of the famous Balearic beat, which was created by DJ Alfred.

2. Pasha

It first opened its doors in 1973, is the oldest nightclub on the island and will be preserved in history forever. It is iconic and built from some converted farmhouses. It has an amazing rooftop terrace and palm-lined gardens that you wouldn’t initially associate with a nightclub, but part of what makes Pacha so famous. Every big name you can think of in the DJ world has played here, including Fatboy Slim, David Guetta, Solomun and Sven Väth. Instead of ice cannons, Pacha has confetti cannons that fire an insane amount of confetti all over the dance floor that will wash you out of your hair for weeks. Just a 10 minute walk from Ibiza town there is literally something going on every day for you to enjoy. Participation varies depending on who is playing; For example, when David Guetta went for the DJ booth ticket, prices were €80, but on a quiet evening with lesser-known names on deck, you can get in for €40. Be sure to come and have a look and bathe in the purple lights that you will find on the beautiful roof terraces.

3. Eden

One of the newcomers to the Ibiza nightclub circuit, Eden first opened its doors in 1999 and is located opposite the harbor on San Antonio’s waterfront. If your hotel is in the bay, you can hop on the disco bus that runs back and forth all night. It is another nightclub with a large capacity, two dance floors and as many as 13 bars. There are also two private VIP areas, a chillout room and a funky room. The club has worked hard to make a name for itself and now attracts many of the biggest promoters offering club nights on the island. Regulars on the bill include Judge Jules Judgment Sundays and Pete Tong’s Wonderland, to name a few. It goes without saying that it also attracts the most impressive DJs eager to hit the turntables, including Judge Jules and Pete Tong, as well as Groove Armada, Eddie Halliwell, Timo Maas and many others. The club is loud and ultra-modern, but if it gets too noisy you can hide out on the gold domed roof and chill with a drink while looking out over the bay.

4.Space

If you never want the party to end, the space might be the venue for you. No one knows for sure, but the management managed to convince the authorities to leave the doors open 22 hours a day. It may not have the same capacity as Amnesia, but it sure is a great nightclub with an array of different beats. One of the biggest crowd pleasers is the ‘We Love Sundays’ party, which starts every Sunday at 4pm and where you can party until 6am the next morning. They also have a pretty amazing open terrace where you can watch planes fly into the island. If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on a VIP ticket, you’ll be treated like royalty and pampered all night long.

5. Es Paradise

Another of the original clubs, Es Paradis first opened in the mid-1970s and remains one of the best nightclub experiences on the island. It has a unique look, with marble columns, vines creeping up the walls and murals embellishing the layout of the multi-tiered space. The venue is probably best known for its retractable pyramid roof and iconic water features. Looking up at the ceiling, you’ll see the biggest disco balls you’ve ever seen, and psychedelic lasers bounce off the mirrored surface, creating a myriad of light beams. First-timers should be aware that the water parts are exactly as you imagine. However, you must comply with the dress code to enter the club; then you can grab a locker and change into your swimming suit. As the water flows over the dance floor, the DJ drops dance versions of classics like ‘It’s raining men’ and ‘I’m singing in the rain’ as approximately 4,000 people take to the dance pool!
