The most valuable new car ever sold at auction /

The Bugatti Chiron Profilée, a unique piece of Bugatti history and the last W16-powered car available at the Atelier, has sold for an incredible price of 9,792,500 Euros net (including buyer’s premium). This sale at the RM Sotheby’s auction, which took place in Paris on February 1, makes the Chiron Profilée the most valuable new car ever sold at auction.

With production of the Chiron1 models, the W16 Mistral and the Bolide completely sold out, the auction of the Chiron Profilée was the last possible chance to buy a new Bugatti powered by the legendary W16 engine direct from the Atelier in Molsheim, France to buy. With such an important piece of Bugatti history at stake, the bidding was fierce both in the room and on the phones.

Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti Automobiles, said: “With only one Chiron Profilée ever established, it was important to us to provide the opportunity to acquire this piece of history to as many people as possible and we were excited about the enthusiasm of the global automotive community for this very special car. Bidders clearly recognized the importance and value of the Chiron Profilée, with an intense rivalry and a price that places this car firmly in the history books.”

With the winning bid of 9,792,500 euros net, the new owner of the Chiron Profilée has taken the opportunity to present this automotive solitaire, the very last Bugatti for sale from the Atelier in Molsheim with the legendary W16 powertrain, to their add collection.

With numerous bidders in the room and on the phones, there was a real sense of history being made, and we congratulate the new custodian of the Chiron Profiled on their extraordinarily special acquisition.”

The name ‘Profilée’ was inspired by one of Jean Bugatti’s first creations – a specific Type 46 model, known as Surprofilée, with a slimmer silhouette and an elegant flowy rear. Just as that car remains an important part of Bugatti’s history, the Chiron Profilée has now written its own chapter in Bugatti’s 114-year legacy.

Like the Chiron Pur Sport, the Chiron Profilée uses the powerful 1,500 hp development of the quad-turbo 8.0-litre, but the auto solitaire is absolutely unique in its design and its details. The flowing, fixed rear wing, which is integrated directly into the car’s body, provides both high-speed stability and crucial cooling for the W16 engine. The Profiled is also the first Chiron sold to feature a woven leather interior finish and the Argent Atlantique exterior color is absolutely unique and has never – and never will be – applied to any other Chiron model. The horseshoe-shaped wheels, inspired by Bugatti’s famous horseshoe-shaped grille, were designed and developed only for this particular car and represent other details only found on the Profilée.
