Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with United Arab Emirates Secretary of State Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Minister emphasized the importance of continuing close coordination to address urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza and promote the protection of civilians. The Secretary thanked the Foreign Minister for the UAE’s humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in need and its commitment to supporting the maritime corridor to bring additional assistance to Gaza by sea. The minister and foreign minister also discussed efforts to secure at least a six-week ceasefire in Gaza as part of an agreement to release all hostages. The minister underlined the US commitment to achieving lasting peace through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel.
The Secretary and the Secretary of State reaffirmed our shared commitment to building a safer and more prosperous region and deepening the strategic partnership between the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
