Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. The Minister and Foreign Minister discussed multilateral efforts to promote regional stability. Secretary of State Blinken reiterated that escalation by Iran would benefit no one in the region. Secretary Blinken and Secretary Shoukry also discussed ongoing efforts to increase humanitarian assistance to Gaza, protect Palestinian civilians, and achieve an immediate ceasefire that secures the release of all hostages. Secretary Blinken agreed with Secretary Shoukry on the continued need to coordinate closely with Egypt to advance the path toward a Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel.
The Minister and Foreign Minister also discussed efforts to resume negotiations under the Jeddah Platform with the aim of ending the conflict in Sudan and preventing further widespread harm to civilians.
