Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. The minister and foreign minister discussed Iran’s unprecedented airstrike on Israel. Secretary Blinken and the Secretary of State stressed the importance of avoiding escalation and coordinating on a diplomatic response. Secretary Blinken and Secretary Shoukry also discussed the importance of ongoing efforts to increase humanitarian assistance to Gaza, protect Palestinian civilians, and achieve an immediate ceasefire that ensures the release of all hostages.
