Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, Chair of the African Development Bank, will lead a roundtable on 22 June 2023 on the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa with Heads of State and representatives of development partners. The event, scheduled for 15:00-16:00 CEST, will take place on the sidelines of the Summit for a New Global Finance Pact in Paris.
Adesina is joined by seven government leaders. Werner Hoyer, President of the European Investment Bank, and Muhammad Al Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank, will also be present.
Participants will make statements before President Adesina makes closing remarks.
The Alliance, an initiative of the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank and Africa50 with other partners, is a platform for African countries and the private sector to raise $500 million in early-stage blended finance capital to raise up to $10 billion dollars in funding. green and climate-proof projects and programs. The ultimate goal is to accelerate the transition to net-zero emissions by Africa and for Africa.
The event will promote AGIA as a powerful platform to scale up and accelerate financing of transformational climate resilient and greener infrastructure projects in Africa to attract new partners and funders. It will also provide an update on the progress of the Alliance’s activities since its launch at COP27.
Agreed by French President Emmanuel Macron, the June 22-23 Summit for a New Global Finance Pact seeks to bring together political leaders, representatives of financial institutions, the private sector and civil society to lay the foundations for a new financial system that inequality, debt overhang, climate change and biodiversity protection, and which is responsive, fairer and more inclusive. Chinese Premier Li Qiang and US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen are expected to attend.
