As part of the Summit for a New Global Finance Pact taking place in Paris from June 22-23, African Development Bank Group President Dr Akinwumi A. Adesina will participate in a session on Guilt and SDR Channeling: Where Do We Stand and How to Move On?
The event is one of six main roundtables taking place at the summit. It will take place at 1:30 pm at the Palais Brongniart, Paris.
Adesina is joined by Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; the president of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Déby itno; Kais Saied, President of Tunisia; President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe; Prime Minister of Rwanda Edouard Ngirente; and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Dinesh Gunawardena. Deputy Prime Minister of Spain, Calvino Nadia, acts as moderator.
The discussion will focus on lessons learned from recent debt restructuring processes in both low and middle income countries. It will also examine the state of play of efforts to channel IMF special drawing rights, the development community’s position on such efforts and how the process can move forward.
Agreed by French President Emmanuel Macron, the Summit for a New Global Finance Pact seeks to bring together political leaders, representatives of financial institutions, the private sector and civil society to lay the foundations for a new financial system that will eliminate inequality, debt overhangs and tackles climate change and protects biodiversity, and is responsive, fairer and more inclusive. Chinese Premier Li Qiang and US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen are expected to attend.
