Spanish artists participate in “Empowering women through art” at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

Between May 18-22, 2024, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo will host the second edition of the “Empowering Women Through Art” forum. Organized by Dr. Shereen Badr, this highly anticipated event will bring together over 100 artists from 35 countries for a vibrant celebration of female creativity and empowerment through art.

Spain’s Artistic Ambassadors

Among the international participants, Spain will be well-represented by three talented artists whose works promise to captivate audiences. In the Spanish pavilion, visitors can immerse themselves in the thought-provoking creations of Sonia Tuno and Virginia Perasbey.

Veronica Ruth Frias: Performance Art with a Message

Leading Spain’s artistic delegation is Veronica Ruth Frias, a multidisciplinary artist renowned for her powerful video and performance art pieces. Supported by the Spanish Embassy in Cairo, Frias will kick off the forum’s opening with her work “The Art of Now,” a collaborative performance with Egyptian participants.

Frias’ art explores critical themes such as the evolution of femininity, motherhood, and violence against women, utilizing tools like customization, fashion, and tattoos to convey her messages. Her work is deeply rooted in the feminist art movement, inviting viewers to contemplate societal norms and challenge preconceived notions.

Sonia Tuno: Unveiling Hidden Worlds

Through her drawings, assemblages, and digital media, Sonia Tuno takes audiences on a captivating journey into worlds often hidden from our everyday perceptions. Her pieces investigate the intricate relationships between humans and the natural environment, examining how we coexist with artificial elements and the intermingling of constructions.

Tuno’s visually striking works satiate the senses while prompting contemplation on our surroundings and the purpose behind the visual stimuli that surround us.

Virginia Perasbey: Texture and Emotion on Canvas

A graduate of the University of Seville with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Virginia Perasbey has participated in numerous group exhibitions both within Spain and internationally. At the Cairo forum, Perasbey will present her oil and fabric paintings, imbued with textural richness and emotional depth.

Through her canvases, Perasbey invites viewers to lose themselves in the tactile qualities of her work, exploring the interplay of color, form, and material.

Empowering Women Through Artistic Excellence

The “Empowering Women Through Art” forum continues to gain global recognition as a platform for female artists to showcase their talent, share their perspectives, and inspire change. With the participation of esteemed Spanish artists, this year’s edition promises to be a resounding success, celebrating the power of art to transcend borders and unite individuals in their pursuit of empowerment and self-expression.
