Six Senses Rome, a peaceful haven nestled in the beating heart of the Eternal City, will open its doors next week in the historic Palazzo Salviati Cesi Mellini. This milestone also marks the completion of the renovation of the beautiful facade of the adjacent San Marcello al Corso church, the first sustainability project sponsored by the hotel. “After being away from my hometown for nearly three decades, it is a pleasure to be back to lead such an incredible project,” said Francesca Tozzi, General Manager of Six Senses Rome. “It makes my team and I feel very proud to open the first urban Six Senses property in Italy. We work hard to ensure that our guests have an unforgettable stay in an authentic, fun and quirky atmosphere.”

Roman hints everywhere

From Cocciopesto on the walls to the extensive presence of local travertine stone, the reverent nod to Roman traditions is evident throughout the hotel’s 96 rooms and suites, some of which feature the iconic Triclinium-style marble chairs on their terraces. At the same time, state-of-the-art in-room technology has been subtly incorporated along with the pioneering Sleep With Six Senses standards of custom home-made and organic mattresses, cotton linens, pillows and extra amenities to promote a restful night’s sleep. With a selection of 12 accommodation categories, including three individually designed signature suites, the many options include secluded rooms overlooking the courtyard and suites overlooking the bustling Via del Corso and neighboring San Marcello al Corso Church. While enjoying a prime location in the heart of the city, the sense of calm and tranquility is still ever present and welcome after a busy day of sightseeing.

True to the Eat With Six Senses ethos, the menus nurture a strong link to local culinary traditions, whether at the all-day BIVIUM Restaurant-Café-Bar or high up on the NOTOS Rooftop. In addition to the Roman Empire-inspired 5-course tasting menu, dishes include vegetable, meat, fish and sweet classics with Sicilian influences to honor the chef’s favourites. The other pillars of the brand’s food and drink philosophy stem from the innovative use of natural and seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers and suppliers.

History and durability

The Palazzo that houses Six Senses Rome is a treasure trove of wonders, from the monumental marble staircase with its decorative skylight to the recently restored 600-year-old columns at the main entrance. The large fourth century baptismal pool was discovered during archaeological excavations at the beginning of the 20th century and is now visible under the glass floor tiles in BIVIUM Restaurant-Café-Bar, the place where all paths intersect.

The fascinating thing about the soul of the Palazzo is how classical elements merge harmoniously with the contemporary, sustainable design of architect Patricia Urquiola. Coupled with an abundance of plants from the entrance to the rooftop, guests will enjoy a strong sense of renewed connection with nature, both indoors and outdoors.
