The African Development Bank, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the International Monetary Fund, is organizing a seminar for regional member states on its Africa Information Highway initiative.

Founded in 2012, this initiative helps African countries improve their data management and dissemination by offering Open Data Platforms. The use of these platforms facilitates the flow of national data from countries to the public, promoting greater and more efficient use of data in decision-making by government and institutions.

This seminar will enable the Bank to keep Member States and partners informed about the results and latest developments of the initiative. The participants discuss how operational work can be improved and how the information superhighway can be made more inclusive. It will also be an opportunity for the Bank’s partners to share their work with the participants.

The general objectives of this seminar are:

• Familiarize participants with the best approaches for managing their country platforms and ensure they are up-to-date with the latest data available.
• Highlight the role the highway can play in improving the dissemination and visibility of data on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
• Update member countries on the portal’s capabilities to rapidly disseminate the first census results of future census rounds.
• Inform African Member States about the upcoming system upgrade aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the platform
• Support African member countries to improve data reporting and timeliness in updating the National Summary Data Page under the IMF’s Enhanced General Data Dissemination System.
• Present the bank’s recently launched Data Innovation Lab, its work and how countries can participate in the initiative.
