Reading of the meeting between Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and the President of the African Union and Comoros, Azali Assoumani
The following is attributable to the US Mission to United Nations Spokesman Nate Evans:
Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Representative to the United Nations, today met with African Union Chairperson and Comoros President Azali Assoumani.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield congratulated the Comoros and President Azali on assuming the presidency of the African Union for 2023. The Ambassador discussed the importance of African leadership in solving global problems. She also expressed US support for the African Union’s accession to the G20 and for stronger African representation in the UN Security Council.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed her appreciation for the deepening of US-Comoros relations. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Azali discussed ways to work together in the areas of education, health, fisheries and security. The Ambassador commended the significant progress made by Comoros in the fight against human trafficking, led by President Azali.
