Reading of Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s meeting with Iraqi President Latif Rashid and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein
The following is attributable to the US Mission to United Nations Spokesman Nate Evans:
Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Representative to the United Nations, met with Iraqi President Latif Rashid and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein today on the sidelines of the 2023 UN Water Conference.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked President Rashid for agreeing to implement gas capture projects to achieve zero routine flaring by 2030 and meet the Global Methane Pledge.
The Ambassador reiterated U.S. commitments to accelerate U.S. efforts to address the water crisis in Iraq, which were discussed at the Higher Coordinating Committee (HCC) in accordance with the Strategic Framework Agreement for a Relationship of Friendship and Cooperation between the United States of America and the Republic from 2008 were received from Iraq (SFA).
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Rashid also spoke about the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), which has been a key partner for the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government. They reiterated their determination to deepen strategic relations across the spectrum of bilateral issues.
