Recognizing the importance of preserving these traditions, UNESCO’s Regional Office in Cairo has embarked on a collaborative effort to support Sudan’s cultural legacy.
Nominating the Jirtiq Traditional Wedding Ceremony
In a recent gathering facilitated by the Sudanese National Council for Cultural Heritage (NCCH), in partnership with the Sudanese Heritage House and the Safeguarding Sudan’s Living Heritage (SSLH) project, the focus was on finalizing preparations for the nomination of the “Jirtiq traditional wedding ceremony” in Sudan. This vibrant ceremony, deeply rooted in Sudanese society, embodies centuries-old customs and rituals that celebrate love, family, and community.
