Goals
- The project aims to expand access to health services and thus help improve the well-being of people, especially women living in rural or remote areas.
Components
- Part 1: Improving access to healthcare infrastructures (primary and secondary).
- Part 2: modernize healthcare by deploying innovative solutions that improve connectivity.
- Part 3: Strengthen governance through better allocation of human and financial resources.
Target area and population
The entire population, with particular reference to the regions of Beni Mellal-Khénifra, Draa-Tafilalet and Guelmin-Oued Noun.
Expected project results
- Departments for women’s and children’s care are operational in the new Guelmim Regional Hospital and the Fkih Ben Salah Provincial Hospital.
- Construction and equipping of hospitals in targeted regions (construction of Beni-Mellal Regional Hospital Center and Azilal Provincial Hospital Center, and equipment of Fkih Ben Salah Provincial Hospital Center).
- Equipping remote locations with telemedicine and teleconsultation facilities.
- Strengthen the staff of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and Territorial Health.
- Increase in the number of graduates from higher institutes of nursing and health technology.
Project background
- Over the past two decades, Morocco has invested significantly in the health sector.
- Maternal and infant mortality and coverage of major maternal and child health interventions have improved.
- In 2018, the government committed to implementing the “Health 2025” plan to improve people’s access to quality healthcare. The plan focuses on four reform requirements: (i) expanding protection against health risks through generalization of health insurance and pensions; (ii) creating a social assistance system targeting the most vulnerable families; (iii) review of the health sector and; (iv) reform of the public education system.
