Media Release: United States Mission to the United Nations to host a UN Security Council Arria Formula session on the human rights situation in the DPRK
The United States Mission to the United Nations will host an Arria Formula meeting on the human rights situation in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Friday, March 17 at 10:00 am ET. This meeting is co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of Albania to the United Nations and co-sponsored by the Permanent Missions of Japan and the Republic of Korea. The purpose of the meeting is to highlight the DPRK’s ongoing human rights abuses and abuses, how they are directly linked to the threats to international peace and security posed by the DPRK’s illicit weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs, and opportunities for the international community to promote the human rights and dignity of North Koreans.
Last month, the United States and 61 other signatories – twice the number in 2022 – sent a letter to the UN Security Council urging the Council to continue to address the human rights situation in the DPRK.
