Germany has allocated €45 million to support the regional work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and the West Bank.
Of this amount, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development is contributing €22 million: €15 million to support basic health and education services for Palestinian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon, and €7 million for the “Cash for Work” program for Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. The German Foreign Ministry is providing €23 million to assist Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, in addition to providing food aid in the West Bank.
The donations announced today are part of our regular regional support for UNRWA. The federal government has clarified that the future of our support for UNRWA in Gaza will be determined in light of progress in ongoing review and investigation processes.
