Meet Alana Lomonaco, the Head of the Commercial and Economic Section at the Embassy of Argentina in Egypt. Her role involves helping companies from both Argentina and Egypt establish thriving businesses, trade more efficiently, and explore avenues for investment and joint ventures. The Embassy`s mission is clear: to create awareness about the untapped potential of these two regions and demonstrate how they can complement each other to flourish together.

In June, an exciting and diverse mission took place, featuring 15 companies spanning sectors such as pharmaceuticals, veterinary, food, auto parts, and chemicals. The highlight of this mission was a successful business-to-business roundtable event, where Argentine and Egyptian companies came together to explore opportunities and partnerships. The results were nothing short of remarkable, leaving everyone involved elated.

Gonzalo Urriolabeitia, the Ambassador of Argentina to Egypt since February 2023, emphasizes the pivotal role of trade and investment in their bilateral relationship. Recognizing the evolving global landscape, Gonzalo stresses the importance of adapting to new circumstances. Their strategy is simple but effective: hard work, bridging the public and private sectors, and boosting trade and investment.

Laura Tobin, representing Tobin Consulting Group, joined this mission representing Pampa, a prominent Argentine meat company. The quality of Argentine meat is renowned worldwide, and Laura sees great potential in the Egyptian market for their products. The partnership promises not only growth for their company but also a valuable contribution to Egypt’s meat industry.

Romina Denogens, from Amega Biotech, a leading pharmaceutical company in Argentina specializing in biotech products, believes that their offerings align perfectly with Egypt’s growing interest in biotechnology products. They aim to contribute significantly to the development of this sector in Egypt through strategic partnerships.
Javier Cerúsico, President of ProSalta, and Sebastián Ashur Mas, Manager of ProSalta, represent a mixed public-private foundation dedicated to promoting foreign trade in Salta, a province in northern Argentina. Salta boasts a diverse range of productions, including mining, wine production, spices cultivation, and tobacco, among others. Their mission in Egypt has been fruitful, with discussions centered on trade possibilities and joint ventures.

Manuel Mateo, Commercial Manager of Laboratorio Proagro, an Argentine company specializing in animal drugs, expressed their optimism regarding the Egyptian market. They foresee opportunities not only for selling their products but also for purchasing Egyptian-made products to market in Argentina, demonstrating the potential for a mutually beneficial partnership.

Fernando Slosel, representing Juntas Illinois, an auto parts company, shared their enthusiasm for exploring new markets, including Egypt. With 80 years of experience in the industry, they were warmly received by Egyptian counterparts and are eager to continue negotiations.

Lastly, Roberto Funes, Director of Biosidus, showcased Argentina’s impressive expertise in biosimilars. Biosidus was pioneer in the production of biosimilars more than 30 years ago, and is looking forward to forging long-term collaborations in Egypt. Roberto recognizes not only the importance of the domestic market but also Egypt’s significant potential as a launching pad for accessing markets in the region.

The numbers speak for themselves: Argentina and Egypt’s bilateral trade is worth a staggering $2 billion annually, equivalent to Egypt’s entire trade with the rest of Africa. This highlights the magnitude of their partnership, one that is built on promoting trade, technological exchange, and shared knowledge.
