Security Alert – Message to US Citizens in Sweden (March 28, 2024)

The U.S. Embassy in Sweden reminds U.S. citizens to exercise general caution when attending large events or visiting public venues. The terrorist threat level in Sweden remains elevated since the Swedish Security Service increased the threat level from 3 to 4 on August 21, 2023. The increased threat level is partly due to the series of Koran burnings in 2023 and the subsequent protests. In addition, there are tensions in connection with the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Suspicious activity should be reported to the appropriate authorities.

Actions to be taken:

  • Avoid crowds.
  • Avoid demonstrations.
  • Stay inconspicuous.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Review your personal security plans.
