Consular Birth Report Abroad (CRBA)
A Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) is a formal document certifying the acquisition of U.S. citizenship upon the birth of a foreign-born person to one or more U.S. citizenship parents who meet the requirements for fulfill the transfer of citizenship under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). . Non-citizens of the United States are also eligible for a consular birth report abroad by using the non-citizenship option.
CRBA applications must be made before the child’s 18th birthday. We encourage parents to apply for the CRBA as soon as possible after the child is born.
Participation requirements
To apply, your child must be born in the United Arab Emirates and you must travel to Abu Dhabi or Dubai for the in-person interview.
To apply online for a CRBA, you MUST answer YES to all of the following criteria.
- Was the child born in the United Arab Emirates?
- Is the child under 18?
- Was at least one parent a US citizen or non-US citizen at the time the child was born?
- Can you use an internationally accepted credit/debit card or a direct payment method from a US dollar bank account (aka “ACH”) to pay for your consular birth report abroad online?
- Are you the biological parent of a child born abroad and are you applying for this child?
If any of the above statements do not apply to you, you MUST apply by completing a paper application (DS-2029).
How to apply
You can now apply for a CRBA electronically at the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the US Consulate in DubaI. With this new online feature, US citizen parents can complete a CRBA application online, upload all required documents, and submit payment prior to the in-person interview.
- To apply for a CRBA online, you must create one MyTravelGov MyTravelGov is a secure, encrypted portal. Watch this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVgRyLQd3jA&t=4s) to learn more about creating your account.
- Once you create a MyTravelGov account, you can access eCRBA and submit your application online. The user-friendly online process offers applicants step-by-step instructions for completing the application. You can review the required documents for the CRBA application in advance using this checklist.
- Once you have completed the online application and made the payment, you will receive an email confirmation. You will then need to schedule your appointment by emailing [email protected] or [email protected], whichever city is most convenient for you. CRBA appointments in the United Arab Emirates cannot be scheduled through MyTravelGov. Please request at least your appointment 72 hours after receipt of. This gives you time to process your payment before your CRBA interview. Please note: do it NOT Make another (or double) payment for a CRBA ($100) at the embassy.
- Attend your scheduled face-to-face interview with you Originaldocuments and theirs photocopies (unilateral). After your application has been checked, you will receive the original documents back. You must provide English translations for all foreign language documents. The child must be present at the time of application. In principle, both parents must also attend the interview.
