How do you imagine winter at Plitvice Lakes? The white blanket of snow makes your visit a special experience as you walk along the blue-green lakes. The silence of nature will fill you with the extraordinary energy of the winter idyll that brings health and refreshment.

Winter idyll on the Plitvice Lakes

Exercise makes us happy and relaxed and improves our psychophysical state. Spending time in nature calms us, frees our mind and reduces stress. Happiness cannot be measured, but scientists agree that we increase it by spending time in nature. There will be no lack of relaxation in nature at the Plitvice Lakes, because miles of hiking trails offer just that. Countless waterfalls and the unreal color of the lakes seem just waiting for you. The sound of the waterfalls, green-blue lakes, frost everywhere – that’s winter at Plitvice Lakes. Try to count our fir trees, catch a snowflake or enjoy a cup of tea in a warm place just a few steps from Croatia’s largest waterfall. This winter landscape hides many secrets, bears sleep in their dens and ducks still play in the lakes. While the nature of the Upper Lakes rests in winter, you can take a boat across the largest Plitvice Lake, Kozjak, and enjoy a walk under the Great Waterfall itself, the largest waterfall in Croatia. Although we are generally drawn indoors in winter, to closed, heated spaces, we believe you will enjoy the fresh air of untouched nature more. In winter, we especially hope that it snows with soft white flakes that cover the ground like a blanket that gives nature peace. We also hope that it will snow because of the sledging and skiing offered in Mukinje, not far from Entrance 2 of the National Park. Since the 1980s, ski and sledge equipment could be rented here for complete winter fun.

This really is the most magical time of the year and the park takes on an even more special glow! This year Advent takes place in the winter garden of Hotel Jezero, where thousands of lights cheer young and old in full splendour, where Mr. and Mrs. Santa can’t wait to hear your wishes and where the whole winter garden smells of cinnamon, chocolate and cloves. Flavors and scents of Advent

Did you know that when we taste new foods, our brain releases small doses of dopamine, the happiness hormone? It is precisely this that creates the desire to travel, the need for change and to try new things.

The aromas of sweet fritters and hot chocolate are a sign that the holiday season is coming, and we associate the holiday spirit with the smell of freshly baked sweets that celebrate life and create pure joy. Hot drinks that warm our bodies and minds and lift us up are also an essential part of any Advent. After a walk around the lakes and well-done Christmas shopping, it’s time to taste traditional hot chocolate or mulled wine with juicy Plitvice sweet fritters, without which we can’t even imagine Christmas. A seemingly simple but actually demanding candy, it requires special preparation and a lot of love and experience. The smell of icing sugar will make everyone happy, and the smell of cinnamon and cloves in mulled wine will spread laughter and a happy atmosphere at a time when we most long for love and peace.

If you prepare well for the cold weather, you will have a lot of fun at Plitvice Lakes during your vacation! Experience the magic of Plitvice Lakes, try our delicacies and feel the Christmas spirit of 16 lakes and countless waterfalls and create enchanting memories in one of the most magical destinations in the world, Plitvice Lakes.
