Chargé d’Affaires Junaid “Jay” Munir
Junaid “Jay” Munir is the Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Oman. He joined the embassy in 2020 as deputy chief of mission. Before working in Oman, he was Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Yemen. He also served as Special Assistant to Deputy Secretary of State for the Middle East and North Africa, Ambassador Anne W. Patterson.
Jay has previously been deployed to Algeria, France, Pakistan, Syria, Tunisia, Jordan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. He began his career as an attorney, working for Judge Alan Gold in the US South District of Florida and working for the law firms of Kirkland & Ellis in Washington, DC and Greenberg Traurig in Miami, Florida. Munir, a Michigan native, graduated magna cum laude with a degree in political science from Yale University and received his law degree from Harvard Law School.
He speaks French, Arabic and Urdu. He and his wife have a son.
