About the Vondelpark

I’ve always said a lot about a city based on parks, and the Vondelpark is a great example of a true reflection of the chaos and dynamic city life that Amsterdam offers to the park. You have the hippies hanging out, people from all over the world listening to all kinds of music and enjoying the weather, and on the one hand the athletes playing football and sports. The Vondelpark has an incredible amount of history, but it is really the cultural atmosphere that makes this park so incredibly popular.

There are plenty of fun things to do in the Vondelpark, including two different cafes with attached children’s parks, called Speeltuin in Dutch. One is called the Groot Melkhuis, with a playground at the back and a cafe with canalside seating offering drinks and food. On one side of the Groot Melkhuis there is a full-fledged restaurant and on the other side a café with terrace.

There is also the Vondeltuin, with a gigantic sandbox and playground and a café serving drinks, cocktails, wine, beer and food such as fries, bitterballen and other Dutch delicacies. In addition, a children’s pool is also called the Children’s Pool.

The Vondelpark also offers plenty of other fun things to do, such as the Rose Garden, Brouwerij ‘t IJ, the craft beer tasting room and a number of ponds, statues and famous landmarks, making it a great place for a picnic in Amsterdam.

Among the many places to visit in the Vondelpark, a unique mention is the Groot Melkhuis. This exquisite café features a children’s playground, called a Speeltuin in Dutch, that embodies the soul of Amsterdam with its canalside seating.

The café offers a wide range of drinks and food for the passers-by, so they can enjoy the beauty of the park while sipping a hot cup of cocoa or eating a delicious sandwich. However, Kroofth Melkhuis is more than just a café.

At the back there is a beautifully designed playground for children. Families can enjoy their refreshments while children play in a safe and nurturing environment.

Moreover, it does not have a split face; On one side there is a full-fledged restaurant, while on the other side is the café with a spacious terrace. This unique mix of relaxation and entertainment makes Kroofth Melkhuis a must-visit place in the Vondelpark.

Another gem waiting to be discovered in the Vondelpark is the Vondeltuin, a café known for its gigantic sandbox and playground – perfect for a family picnic.

A range of Dutch culinary delights, including fries, bitterballen, cocktails, wine, beer and other drinks, complement the fun quotient of the sandbox. With its range of drinks, the café is suitable for every taste bud, making it a favorite meeting place for Amsterdam residents and tourists.

A swim full of fun – Children’s pool

The Vondelpark is not just about cafes and playgrounds. For the little water lovers there is a Children’s Pool, a children’s pool. The pool provides a clean and safe environment for children to splash around and make the most of their day at the park.

In addition to these attractions, the Vondelpark is bustling with many other activities and sights. From the fragrant Rose Garden to the tasteful craft beer tasting room of Brouwerij ‘t IJ: the park has corners that connect with everyone.

The park’s many statues, ponds, and famous landmarks make it a perfect picnic spot and provide an in-depth perspective on Amsterdam’s vibrant culture and lifestyle. The Vondelpark transcends the usual archetype of the city park and becomes a space that truly represents the spirit of Amsterdam.

The origin of parrots in the Vondelpark Amsterdam

Parrots in Vondelpark Amsterdam may seem strange given the city’s Northern European geography. Not many people can pinpoint exactly how these tropical birds established their presence here.

One story was about a local enthusiast who started a bird colony that expanded radically over time. Another somewhat dramatic depiction suggests a truck accident involving an American company. According to this version, reported by Het Parool, a newspaper in Amsterdam, the incident led to the large-scale release of birds from exotic locations.

Over the years, these winged nomads are said to have spread and marked their territory across Amsterdam. Although the real story remains shrouded in mystery, what stands out is the thriving community of parrots that have made Vondelpark Amsterdam their home away from home.

A distinctive feature of the “Parrots in Vondelpark Amsterdam” is located in their chosen places: the towering trees. They are mainly observed around the Groot Melkhuis and Brouwerij ‘t IJ, where they have created a microtropical oasis in the urban landscape.

Their numbers, comfortably observed in trees, demonstrate adaptability and the park’s thriving ecosystem that welcomes diverse species. A trip to the Vondelpark promises a day well spent.
