Ambassador Ana A. Escrogima – U.S. Embassy in Oman

Ambassador Ana Escrogima was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman on November 13, 2023. In Oman, Ambassador Escrogima leads a team of 300 employees who work every day to advance the U.S.-Oman relationship. As part of his career as a Senior Foreign Service Officer, Ambassador Escrogima most recently served as Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Montreal. Prior to this role, she served as Office Chief for Regional and Multilateral Affairs in the Office of Near East Affairs. Ambassador Escrogima served overseas as deputy chief of mission for the Yemen Affairs Division in Saudi Arabia, established in 2015 following the closure of the U.S. Embassy in Sana’a, Yemen.

A former Rusk Fellow at the Georgetown Institute for the Study of Diplomacy, Ambassador Escrogima has extensive experience abroad and in Washington, DC. She was the State Department’s spokesperson for Arabic in the United Arab Emirates and served as public affairs officer in Algeria, where she was responsible for all bilateral cultural and press engagements. Ambassador Escrogima served as a political officer at the U.S. embassies in Iraq and Syria. She was a special assistant to former Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman and was responsible for Middle East issues – particularly the nuclear negotiations with Iran.

Ambassador Escrogima also served as diplomat-in-residence for the New York metropolitan area, where she focused on reaching diverse audiences with the department’s recruitment interview and taught a course on U.S. diplomacy in the Middle East. She is the recipient of numerous Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards from the U.S. Department of State. In 2020, Ambassador Escrogima was awarded the Arnold L. Raphel Memorial Award in recognition of his work promoting diversity
at the State Department – ​​recruiting underrepresented groups, supporting young professionals, and advocating for institutional change.

Ambassador Escrogima is originally from New York City and speaks Arabic, French and Spanish. She graduated from Brown University as a Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellow with a BA in International Relations and Affairs and French and holds a master’s degree from the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs. Ambassador Escrogima is married and has a one-year-old son.
