Efforts to evacuate US citizens from Sudan

A US government-organized convoy containing US citizens, local employees and nationals of allied and partner countries arrived in Port Sudan on April 29. From there, we assist U.S. citizens and other eligible persons onward travel to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where additional U.S. personnel are stationed to assist with consular and emergency services. This builds on the work done by the US government this week to facilitate the exit of our diplomats through military-assisted exit and hundreds of other US citizens through land convoys, flights on partner aircraft and by sea. Hundreds of US citizens and lawful permanent residents have left Sudan through these US government-facilitated options.

The US government has made extensive efforts to contact US citizens in Sudan and allow those who wish to leave the country to leave the country. We have sent a message to all US citizens in Sudan who have communicated with us during the crisis and given specific instructions to join this convoy to those interested in departing by land. We encourage US citizens who wish to leave Sudan but have chosen not to participate in this convoy to contact the Department of State using the Crisis Admissions Form on our website.

Intensive negotiations by the United States, with the support of our regional and international partners, enabled the creation of security conditions that allowed the exit of thousands of foreign and US citizens, including through today’s operation. We continue to call on the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces to end the fighting that is endangering civilians.

We reiterate our warning to US citizens not to travel to Sudan.
