The Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most beautiful national parks in the world and an absolute highlight of a trip through Croatia. It is truly a unique natural wonder with its 16 cascading crystal clear lakes and abundant flora and fauna.

A walk through the Plitvice Lakes Park stimulates all the senses, whatever the season or weather. It is a wonderful place to visit all year round and is sure to enchant you with its beautiful viewpoints and picture-perfect waterfalls. Each season has its own inspiring charms and tells its own story full of colors, sounds, breathtaking landscapes and the life that unfolds all around you.

spring blooms

Now that the trees are starting to turn green again, nature is awakening, and so is our Plitvice Lakes National Park. In spring you can enjoy fresh air, warm sunshine, colors and sounds that move you and invite you to enjoy what nature has to offer. Feel the breath of spring, take a walk in the park and let nature awaken within you. In the spring the days get longer, the weather is nice and that makes it a wonderful time for a short holiday for the summer holidays.

With the onset of spring, we open the Upper Lakes, giving you the chance to experience all 16 beautiful lakes and enjoy scenes hidden by greenery for most of the year. This is also the time when hibernating animals wake up. In spring, our animals, such as the protected brown bear, symbol of the Plitvice Lakes National Park, have enough energy to come back to us. The lush green surroundings and the first flowers of the season will awaken and enchant all visitors. Walking along the wooden paths along the lakes and waterfalls, which have changed color after winter with the first rays of the sun, you will experience a true spring story told through the ancient forest. Spring is also a time when our park traditionally celebrates its birthday, so we have plenty of offers for our visitors.

Enchanting summer

The green oasis of the Plitvice Lakes National Park attracts the largest number of visitors in spring and convinces them with its extraordinary beauty: clear lakes, babbling brooks, splashing waterfalls, all surrounded by the green embrace of the forest. The summer weather at the Plitvice Lakes is very pleasant and the ideal temperatures allow you to fully enjoy your walk through the park. Summer also brings countless activities to the park. There are several routes for visitors to choose from, and there are two routes for hiking enthusiasts, while visitors who want to explore Kozjak Lake on their own can rent a wooden rowing boat.

The rippling waterfall of 16 beautiful lakes, the largest of which is Kozjak, is sure to intrigue all visitors. The Upper Lakes consist of 12 interconnected lakes, while the Lower Lakes canyon has four lakes separated by travertine barriers. The clear blue waters, birdsong, lush summer vegetation and beautiful waterfalls ensure that our visitors enjoy every minute spent in the park. The falls are a pleasant and soothing sight for every nature lover. In the summer, the water in the lakes is especially interesting as it changes every hour and changes from light blue to crystal clear turquoise when viewed from the shore. This natural phenomenon is so special thanks to the clear turquoise and emerald green water that is rich in minerals.

The park offers plenty of shade. When you need a break, stop and cool off under the lush trees or next to one of the many waterfalls. The long trails around the lakes and through the forests invite all visitors to experience the charm of wild and unspoilt nature and take a summer break from the chaotic everyday life.

Rhapsody of autumn colours

The summer season ends with the first autumn breezes. As autumn sets in, the colors make it look more special than any other season. Don’t be discouraged by the first rain showers, because they mark the beginning of the road to winter and the magical spectacle of colors and shapes makes this season extra special. Many say fall is their favorite season. We can finally enjoy pleasant, slightly lower temperatures after the hot summer days. And what do you get the most out of days like these? In nature of course. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere while walking the trails and paths listening to the rustling of the leaves. Trees seem to be full of flowers and change color from yellow to red and finally to brown. The fluttering leaves weave a new carpet on the ground and ensure that we have a new landscape to look at as we admire the lakes through the treetops. This season is special because it is still possible to visit both the Upper and Lower Lakes, and since most visitors use their vacation days for the summer holidays, this could be a unique opportunity to plan your visit for the autumn, when there are fewer visitors.

Wildlife is still quite vibrant. As hard-working squirrels stock up for the winter, we slowly say goodbye to the migratory birds, while the permanent species stay with us to share some more of their favorite tunes.

Nature reminds us that change always leads to something good and that we can enjoy life regardless of the season. Rain can spoil your mood, but after every downpour the falls smile back and show themselves in their full glory. We are sure you will be impressed with how much bigger they get and how they show off all their magnificence. The sounds of nature and the unique landscape will relax you and take you to a whole new world, a world full of magic. This is the perfect opportunity to take beautiful photos that will forever remind you of the time spent in one of the world’s most beautiful parks.

winter Wonderland

Winter reminds us to take it easy and that everyone, including our planet, needs a break. A walk through the frozen landscape is really something special. The crunch of the snow under your feet and the silence around you are an indescribable pleasure. Winter in Plitvice Lakes National Park has different faces, all of which are worth a visit – whether you choose a period when everything is covered in snow and ice, or when the lakes fill up. Although most of the lakes are closed to visitors in winter, you certainly won’t regret visiting the Lower Lakes. Soft, unique snowflakes falling on the waterfalls, lakes and forests transform the landscape into a true wonderland. In winter, the magical nature paints the most amazing images of the glittering snow.
