Rome, April 6, 2023
Chargé d’Affaires Shawn Crowley visited the NATO Defense College in Rome on Thursday April 6, 2023. Originally based in Paris, the NATO Defense College was founded thanks to General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the first Supreme Allied Commander Europe, who early identified the need for a new international defense institution with a unique educational mission.
In 1966 he moved to Rome, where it continues to fulfill its mission Contribute to Alliance effectiveness and cohesion through high-level training on transatlantic security issues. CDA Crowley met with Lt. Gen. Olivier Rittimann, commander of the NATO Defense College, who, along with the NDC department heads, briefed him on the school’s mission, structure and activities. “We’re proud of more than 70 years of working together to train NATO’s next leaders,” Crowley said at the end of the visit with a tour of the university campus.
