Reading of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s meeting with Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves
The following is attributable to the US Mission to United Nations Spokesman Nate Evans:
US Representative to the UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield met Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves today in San Jose, Costa Rica. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Chaves emphasized the importance of the bilateral relationship between the US and Costa Rica and discussed our shared agenda on democracy, security, migration and economic prosperity.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked President Chaves for his efforts to ensure safe and humane treatment of asylum seekers – who make up five percent of Costa Rica’s population – and migrants. She also commended President Chaves for his government’s strong condemnation of the Ortega-Murillo regime.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Chaves also discussed Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, shared economic priorities and the importance of democratic values and institutions.
Finally, they reaffirmed their continued strong partnership at the United Nations, including the Human Rights Council and the Commission on the Status of Women.
