Please note:
• The application language is English, ie just a letter of introduction and a CV. Certificates, awards or degrees in English or German do not have to be translated.

• Note that the US Mission to Germany will not reimburse travel expenses incurred by the respondent.
• Admission Requirements: The US Mission will only accept applications from German universities and colleges from students who are non-US citizens and have legal residency and student status in Germany with full student health insurance coverage. The purpose of the Volunteer National Student Intern Program is to provide native students with a challenge to work in the field of foreign affairs.
There are no benefits associated with this internship, there is no remuneration or any future employment rights. The U.S. Mission will consider issues such as conflicts of interest, nepotism, immigration status, and whether the applicant has a work permit when determining a successful application.
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The incumbent provides assistance in preparing and providing materials for public relations (presentations, brochures, etc.) and meetings with interlocutors. The incumbent helps organize consular and/or public events and accompanies consular staff to events/meetings where appropriate and possible. The job holder researches and helps with the preparation of reports and with all administration (documentation, filing and communication). The incumbent may be assigned duties that include research, economic and political reporting, business correspondence, information systems, international affairs analysis, visa/consular work, administrative duties, budget and finance, public relations and human resources management, etc.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet each selection criterion below with specific information supporting each item to be considered qualified.
EDUCATION: Existing enrollment at a university or vocational school.
EXPERIENCE: Experience in a professional environment (previous internship or office work) is required.
LANGUAGE: German level IV (fluent) and English level III (good working knowledge) are required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, SKILLS:
- Research skills (mainly internet search engines) to prepare interviews and background materials.
- Extensive computer skills – knowledge of Microsoft Office (EXCEL, WORD and POWER POINT).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to start yourself and initiative.
- Ability to represent the US Consulate at public events in an enthusiastic and professional manner.
- Previous knowledge and interest in German-American relations and current political events.
- Experience writing speeches, greetings, short articles, talking points and news in English and German.
- Ability to work with media (photos, videos and social networks).
