A snapshot from the third day of the second test in Delhi
INDIA V AUSTRALIA, SECOND TEST, DAY THREE
SCORE: Australia 263 and 113, India 262 and 4-118
SUMMARY: Australia missed their chance to build a match-winning lead. After starting the third day at 1-61, a 62 lead, the tourists were blown away by India’s spinners for the second straight Test. Ravi Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were excellent but some of the shots played by Australia’s racquets will haunt them for the rest of the tour. India had little trouble reaching the 115 target.
MAN OF THE MOMENT: Jadeja had not played Test cricket in eight months but the star all-rounder has returned with two straight Player-of-the-Match awards. Jadeja stormed through Australia for the second time in a week, taking a career-best performance of his career for 10 wickets of the match at 7-42 in the second innings. Now a true force in Indian cricket.
KEY MOMENT: After the great Steve Smith was sacked, Australia’s percussion disbanded in an incredible amount of time. Smith received lbw to Ashwin, with Australia dropping from 2-85 to 113 all-outs in no time.
STAT OF THE DAY: It was a case of going away in 91 minutes for Australia. They collapsed by losing 9-48 and 8-28 in a stunning surrender before lunch Sunday morning.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I’m furious with the way they handled today,” legendary Australia captain Allan Border said of the batting side collapsing.
