Comcast customers in Philadelphia are unable to watch the Super Bowl due to a cable outage
If there’s ever a bad time for a cable service outage in the Philly area, it’s during the Super Bowl when the Eagles are playing.
While Philadelphia Eagles fans tuned in to see their team take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Super Bowl Sunday, Comcast said it’s “busily working to expand service for Xfinity customers in,” according to the Associated Press to restore some parts of the city.
According to the Philadelphia investigators, the line was apparently cut on purpose and the police were aware of the situation. A Comcast official told the newspaper that service was restored to some, but not all, customers in time for the 6:30 p.m. ET launch.
Comcast spokeswoman Jen Bilotta told the AP that a fiber optic cable cut in the Kensington section of northeast Philadelphia caused an outage Saturday that affected a few thousand homes in the Kensington and Fishtown boroughs.
At 7:17 p.m. ET, Xfinity Support tweeted: “All services should now be restored for customers in Kensington and Fishtown affected by an outage caused by vandalism today. We are grateful to our local teams who responded immediately and resolved this issue as quickly as possible. Anyone who continues to have problems should restart their modem and/or cable box.”
A few touchdowns were scored at the time of the tweet, but the halftime show with Rihanna hadn’t started yet.
