The African Development Bank has appointed Abdourahmane Diaw as Country Manager for its Egypt Country Office, as of November 1, 2022.
Diaw is a Senegalese national and has more than 28 years of experience in the implementation of development programs and projects. These range from identification to evaluation, supervision and monitoring of programmes, to projects, monitoring the performance of the national and regional portfolio and involvement in high-level dialogue to advance the regional integration agenda.
Immediately prior to his appointment, Diaw was responsible for the Egypt Country Office and served as Regional Manager, Portfolio and Implementation Support Division for the North Africa region. Diaw is credited with the effective management of a multi-disciplinary team that has helped deliver approximately $1 billion in projects annually in the region since 2018.
Diaw has provided strategic and technical leadership to the North Africa region. He provided cross-cutting support focused on the bank’s regional and country strategies, portfolio assessments and fiduciary clinics, as well as regional dialogue, to bring regional member states closer to the bank. He was instrumental in providing timely support for the implementation of the bank’s post-Covid-19 and food crisis facilities. He also coordinated the respective task teams to work in various areas such as civil society involvement, business opportunity seminars and private sector involvement.
Prior to his appointment, Diaw served as Principal Country Program Officer and as Chief Regional Program Officer, overseeing the implementation of strategies and development projects in Central and North Africa, based in Tunisia. Between April 2000 and October 2009 he was Senior Financial Analyst and later Principal Financial Analyst. In this capacity he was responsible for the preparation and supervision of development projects in Central and East Africa.
Prior to joining the bank, Diaw worked for AGETIP in Senegal as a Financial Controller. He also worked for BIFIT as a Treasury Officer (January – December 1993) and for Price Waterhouse as an auditor from July 1988 to September 1989 in Senegal.
Diaw holds a Master of Arts in Finance from Webster University Missouri – USA (1992) and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Montreal Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) Montreal, Canada (1988).
Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Diaw: “I am honored and humbled to have been appointed Country Manager in Egypt by President Adesina, one of the Bank’s largest shareholders. As Country Manager, I will strengthen the strategic partnership between the bank and the country, expand the bank’s activities in Egypt and ensure that the bank has a healthy portfolio in the country.”
