Biden denies NFL got too violent after Hamlin collapse
President Joe Biden said the NFL should continue to improve health protections for its players, but Buffalo Bills securing Damar Hamlin’s collapse during a game Monday doesn’t mean the game is too dangerous.
“No,” Biden told reporters Wednesday after being asked if pro football was getting too dangerous.
“Look, the idea you’re going to have — you’ve got guys who are 6ft 8, 340 pounds, running 4.8 40, you know, if you hit someone — and that’s not what’s happening here is, but I just think it’s — I don’t know how you avoid it,” he said.
“I think it makes a lot of sense working like hell on the helmets and the concussion logs,” he said. “But it’s, you know, it’s dangerous.”
Hamlin went into cardiac arrest after making a tackle about nine minutes into the game against the Cincinnati Bengals and was taken to a hospital. Play has been suspended following the nationally televised incident and Hamlin remains in critical condition “with signs of improvement,” according to the Bills said in a tweet On Wednesday.
