Christmas Day 2022 observed: what is open and what is closed?
The halls have been decked out and the carefully wrapped gifts are now being torn open (and many people will be discovering scraps of paper for most of the next week). But Christmas isn’t quite over yet.
Since December 25th fell on a Sunday this year, many people have an extra day off today.
If you’re hoping to cash in on the post-Christmas sales, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. But if you’re trying to take care of business with your local (or federal) government agency — or hoping to trade stocks, things get a little more complicated.
Here you can see who is open and closed on Christmas Day 2022.
Are the banks open on Monday 26th December?
Christmas is a public holiday and as such the banks are closed. Since the public holiday fell on a Sunday, the government celebrates it today. However, you can still use ATMs to receive cash or add funds to your account.

nope The US Postal Service does not operate on New Year’s Day. With UPS and FedEx, things are not so simple and dry.

The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and bond markets are all closed. Trading will resume on Tuesday.
Are government offices open on Monday 26th December?
City, district, state and federal offices are closed. If you think yours is the exception, it’s best to call and confirm.
Which retail and grocery stores will be closed on Monday 26th December?
Hardly any of them. Retailers who were closed for Christmas took the day off yesterday. Whether you want to take advantage of clearance offers or stock up your fridge, you have a free hand.
