Retail return policies and deadlines for unwanted Christmas gifts: Walmart, Target, Amazon, Apple and more
People have had months this year to take advantage of the holiday deals, but that doesn’t mean they gave you something you really wanted. Whether it’s an ugly shirt, shoes that are three sizes too small, or something you already owned, you’re hoping to return it. And who can blame you?
Whatever the problem, when you want to get it back to the store, the clock is ticking. How long is the return window – and does it matter if they bought that gift back in early October?
The answer depends heavily on where it was purchased, but overall there’s a good chance you can still take it back. Return policies vary by store, of course, and some gifts cannot be returned at all. However, here are the deadlines for returning your unwanted gifts for 2022.
Retail Return Policy for 2022 Holidays
Amazon
Return deadline 31.01. for purchases between 11.10. and 25.12.2022.
Apple
January 8 return deadline for purchases made between November 4 and December 25, 2022.
Bath and body works

January 14th return deadline for most purchases made between October 24th and December 31st
Bloomingdale’s
Most items can be returned within 90 days of purchase
foot cabinet
Return items within 45 days of their shipping date.
GameStop
Return new items within 15 days of purchase (7 days for used items), which means returns could run out at the struggling retailer.
J team
January 9 return deadline for purchases made between October 12 and December 9.
cabbage
Return most items within 180 days. Premium electronics and watches must be returned within 30 days of purchase, and beauty purchases have a 60-day window.
LL Bean
Items can be returned within 365 days of purchase.
Macy’s
January 31st return deadline for all purchases made from October 3rd
Marshalls
January 25 return deadline for purchases made between October 9 and December 24, 2022.
Neiman Markus
Return period of 30 days from proof of purchase.
Pet Co
Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase.
Goal
The return periods vary depending on the product:
Smartphone: January 8th
Apple Products: January 9th
Other Electronics: January 24th
Most other items can be returned within 90 days of the date of purchase
Walmart
The return window for products purchased between October 1st and December 31st is open until January 31st
