A large aquarium in Berlin, housed in the lobby of the city’s Radisson Collection Hotel, has burst, flooding the hotel and nearby streets with millions of gallons of water. More than 100 firefighters attended the site of the world’s largest free-standing cylindrical aquarium, and it’s not yet clear what caused the rupture.

The AquaDom, as it is known, was a cylindrical aquarium 25 meters high and one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city, attracting thousands of visitors every year with its unique design and diverse aquatic life. Home to more than 1,500 fish representing more than 50 different species, it was a saltwater tank that housed a variety of colorful tropical fish, including angelfish, clownfish, and parrotfish. The aquarium also contained different types of coral and other marine plants, creating a vibrant and diverse ecosystem for the fish to thrive in.

One of the AquaDom’s most unique features was the transparent elevator, which ran through the center of the tank and allowed visitors to get a closer look at the fish swimming by. The elevator is made of acrylic glass, which was said to be both durable and transparent, allowing an unobstructed view of the aquarium. The elevator ride took about five minutes and provided a 360-degree view of the tank, allowing visitors to see all sides of the aquarium and the different species of fish that live in it.

The incident took place in the early hours of the morning, causing extensive damage and injuring two people. Had it been an hour or so later, when the lobby would have been much busier with visitors, many of whom would be children, things could have been very different. The scene has been visited by Franziska Giffey, the mayor of Berlin, who described it as a tsunami.

In addition to the main tank, the AquaDom also had several smaller tanks on the ground floor that showcased different types of aquatic life, such as seahorses, crabs, and sea turtles. These tanks offered visitors the chance to see these animals up close and learn more about them.

The AquaDom also offered educational programs and workshops for both children and adults. These programs are designed to teach visitors about the importance of preserving marine ecosystems and the role each individual can play in protecting the world’s oceans.

As well as being a popular tourist attraction, the AquaDom is a vital part of the local community, working closely with organizations such as the Berlin Zoo and the German Fish Protection Association to promote conservation and protect the environment. It also supported research and education programs that help advance our understanding of marine ecosystems and the animals that live in them.
