The Ibero-American Film Week, a yearly cultural event, has kicked off in both Cairo and Alexandria, bringing together cinema enthusiasts and fans of Ibero-American culture. The main objective of this event is to promote Ibero-American film productions in Spanish and Portuguese, showcasing feature films and documentaries that explore a wide range of themes, reflecting the rich cultural essence of each participating country.
This year’s event features contributions from 11 Ibero-American countries, including Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Portugal, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay. Both Cairo and Alexandria will host screenings, allowing audiences in both cities to experience the vibrant cinematic culture of the region.
Ibero-American Film Week in Cairo
The 12th edition of the Ibero-American Film Week in Cairo will run from October 14 to October 25, 2024. Screenings will take place at Zawya Cinema, located in downtown Cairo, at 6:30 p.m. each evening. Admission is free, but seats are limited, so early arrival is encouraged. All films will be subtitled in either Arabic or English, ensuring accessibility for a wide audience.
Ibero-American Film Week in Alexandria
In Alexandria, the fourth edition of the Ibero-American Film Week will be held at the Cervantes Institute from October 21 to October 31, 2024. The same lineup of feature films shown in Cairo will be screened, also free of charge until capacity is reached.
This annual event is a key platform for cultural exchange, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse cinematic traditions of Ibero-America. The featured films not only entertain but also offer valuable insights into the social, political, and cultural landscapes of the countries involved, contributing to a stronger cultural bond between Egypt and the Ibero-American region.
