Review: Sea Breeze Beach House, Christchurch, Barbados

Diplomat.Today

Inspired by the Tradewinds that gently bend the beachfront palm trees and cool guests, Sea Breeze Beach House serves up relaxed luxury.

Located on the ultimate Caribbean paradise beach, Sea Breeze Beach House stretches along 300 meters of soft white sand and has a total of 122 rooms and suites.

Artwork and furnishings bring the ever-changing tones of the seascape to the hotel. Hints of aquamarine, cobalt, deep ocean blue, seagrass, teal and turquoise often feature in the interior design.

At the relaxed Sea Breeze Beach House, all-inclusive is all-encompassing. It includes meals, snacks, drinks, many activities and non-motorized water sports.

Sea Breeze Beach House has the space to be both family friendly and provide tranquility for adults only.

The welcome

As soon as the security barrier goes up to allow our taxi to enter the territory of Sea Breeze Beach House, the porter is on his way to collect our luggage.

After the formalities at reception and drinks, the receptionist accompanies us to our suite.

The sequel

In each of the 44 luxury oceanfront suites, full-width windows offer panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea.

A large coastal watercolor brings maritime colors into the suite and reminds guests that the beach below is a nesting ground for turtles.

Driftwood wood gives a Robinson Crusoe look to the headboard behind an extra-wide double bed. There are also driftwood tones in the floor.

If it’s too hot to go out onto the balcony, a two-seater sofa and armchair offer sea views. There are times when you feel the need to be cooled by air conditioning and ceiling fans. Place drinks, from a minibar where free beer and soft drinks are refreshed daily, on a large coffee table trunk.

The suite is equipped with many luxuries: a 60-inch flat-screen television, a Keurig coffee maker with Colombian coffee, dressing gowns and a fresh orchid flower display.

The bathroom

The White Company supplies the toiletries for the two wash units and the rainforest shower.

The facilities

Breakfast is served from 7am in the Mahogany Restaurant for those going on an early excursion.

From then on, drinks, meals and snacks are always at hand. The Rum Shop, built in traditional castle style, opens at 10am and serves sandwiches and drinks in addition to the rum cocktails. Throughout the day, waiters provide drinks by the pool, with the Cerulean Bar finally closing at 1am.

Tipsy, on the beach, is a casual lunch spot between the toes, serving wraps and kebabs. The Flying Fish has a similarly light menu of fish cakes, roti, salads and wraps, while Mahogany offers a buffet lunch.

In the evening, with a more formal dress code, Cerulean is the gourmet option for fine dining. At Aqua Terra, located above the ocean, the sushi menu is just one of the highlights on the a la carte menu.

The water sports team provides equipment and lessons throughout the day for body boarding, kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling and a trip on the Hobie Cat. Jet skis are available but at an extra cost.

Located in a serene corner of the estate, Drift Spa’s masseuses work away the wear and tear of life with deep tissue and Swedish massages. Relax around the adults-only pool, with two Jacuzzis, between facials, massages and pedicures.

The location

The Sea Breeze Beach Hotel is located on one of Barbados’ best beaches, between St Lawrence Gap and Ostins. The hotel is well located for excursions.

A trip to St. Nicholas Abbey tells a lot about the history of the island since colonization. Strangely enough, the abbey is not an abbey. But it is home to Barbados’ only railway line.

Ride the train that once transported sugar cane and rum through the plantation, stopping for spectacular views of Cherry Tree Hill on Barbados’ Atlantic coast.

Despite the splendor of only one of three Jacobean houses in the Western Hemisphere, the highlight for most visitors is the 18-minute black-and-white home video of life on a plantation in 1935.

Other excursions include a dive on the Nautilus submarine to view the coral reef and a jeep safari around the island.

Other nice touches

There is live music every evening: the locations alternate between the beachside bandstand, the Cerulean Bar and on the beach.

Even when it’s time to check out, Sea Breeze Beach House offers complimentary late departures if your suite is not needed. If so, there is an area for luggage storage and showers for that final refreshment. Guests are entitled to lunch and drinks until it is time to fly. It essentially gives them an extra half day of vacation.

Sea Breeze Beach House offers a succession of blissful, immersive experiences: afternoon tea in the Cerulean, champagne at sunset on the Aqua Terra terrace.

Costs

Sea Breeze Beach House costs £4,896 (all-inclusive) for a classic ocean view room.

The best part

The employees. They are approachable, vibrant, cheerful and involved. Not only do they deliver food and drinks, they also serve up the personality of Barbados.

If any issues arise, guests have a Hotel Ambassador’s number to quickly resolve any cleaning or maintenance issues.

The final verdict

Many Bajans claim that the island encompasses 266 square kilometers of smiles and there is reason to say that those smiles are widest at Sea Breeze Beach House.
