Birdsong, the sound of more than ninety flowing waterfalls and the hum of the forest all create a unique composition that will keep you enchanted. Let these sounds bring you closer to nature during your unforgettable journey through this oasis of peace and grandeur.
New point of view
Tomićevo Pogledalo, the new viewpoint, is located at an altitude of 684.82 m and offers spectacular panoramic views of the five lakes for which this oldest and largest national park in Croatia is famous. It has been designed according to all environmental guidelines, making a panoramic view of this magical place a truly unique experience. Nature lovers and visitors who enjoy hiking can reach the viewpoint on foot during an Upper Lakes tour on the K program, with a short uphill climb of just 20 minutes. The Tomićevo Pogledalo viewpoint is named after the poet Josip Eugen Tomić, who often visited this place in search of inspiration. The breathtaking views from the viewpoint are sure to delight visitors and make their experience of the park even more unforgettable.
Tour programs for everyone
The park offers eight tour programs adapted to the different preferences of visitors. From fast-paced two-hour programs to leisurely eight-hour programs, everyone can find the perfect way to explore the park. Visitors can start their adventures at one of the two entrances and explore the Lower or Upper Lakes, or explore them all with one of the longer programs. Some tour programs include riding a panoramic vehicle or an electric boat, while others guide visitors on hiking tours along beautiful trails. The Park’s official website provides detailed descriptions of all tour programs and their maps, allowing visitors to select the program that best suits their needs.
Biodiversity
The Plitvice Lakes National Park is known for its rich biodiversity. Three large carnivores can be found shyly enjoying the lush streams and green forests: the lynx, the wolf and the bear. While walking, visitors are likely to encounter ducks that are permanent residents of the park and stay here year-round. They are a beautiful sight especially in the spring, when you can see them swimming with their fluffy ducklings. The lakes are rich in fish, free and protected like all other animal and plant species in the park. The flora in the park is also unique, with more than 60 orchid species and more than 1,400 plant species, accounting for 30% of Croatia’s total flora.
The park through the seasons
Plitvice Lakes National Park stuns with its beauty in all seasons. As nature awakens in spring, the park turns into an oasis of colors, sounds and smells. Summer brings warmth and plenty of sunshine, giving visitors the perfect opportunity to explore the various trails and enjoy the spectacular views. Autumn, with its spectacular color palette, creates an image so otherworldly that it almost looks like it was painted by a great master. Winter brings a special kind of magic, creating fairytale visions and offering a spectacular silence for visitors to enjoy, when all sounds are muffled and only the soft crunch of their steps can be heard. Regardless of the season of your visit, this natural wonder is sure to amaze you with its multifaceted beauty.
The beauty of waterfalls
The park’s most famous feature is undoubtedly its spectacular waterfalls that never cease to amaze visitors. The waterfalls and their unique shapes are the result of the tuff formation process, which can also be attributed to the global recognition of the Plitvice Lakes National Park. The waterfalls are not only an aesthetic delight in themselves, but represent a very important ecological treasure. The water that flows over the tuff formations is rich in oxygen and nutrients and provides ideal conditions for the development of various animal and plant species. The waterfalls, the water exploding into a thousand tiny drops, create magical vistas and represent a place where people meet nature and learn how to live in harmony.
