NMAD unveils latest designs for new permanent exhibitions

The National Museum of American Diplomacy (NMAD) has completed 100 percent planning for several exhibitions expected to open to the public in summer 2025.

The Discover diplomacy Hall in the Hillary Rodham Clinton Pavilion and The influence of diplomacy The hall, in the renovated Founding Ambassadors Concourse, will be housed in NMAD’s 20,000-square-foot glass pavilion, located at the 21st Street entrance to the Harry S. Truman Building – home of the U.S. Department of State.

The upper level of the pavilion will feature: Discover diplomacy Room. This museum welcome and orientation room provides an overview of the principles of diplomacy and an introduction to the people, places and issues critical to the work of diplomacy today.

The lower level will be the renovated Founding Ambassadors Concourse. This floor will feature a new home for temporary exhibitions and a renovated public program space. The first exhibition rotation will be State giftswhich shows a selection of official diplomatic gifts.

The halls were designed by C&G Partners, a creative studio specializing in cultural organizations and museums, working in creative partnership with museum architects Beyer Blender Belle (BBB).

The installation of these exhibitions is part of NMAD’s phased approach to opening and signifies the completion of Phase 2. NMAD completed Phase 1 of construction in 2017 with the opening of the pavilion.

Phase 3 will be the opening The History of American Diplomacy Hall and The practice of diplomacy Room. This includes renovating an additional 20,000 square feet of office space in the Truman Building with state-of-the-art technology to accommodate exhibitions of select objects from our collection of over 11,000 objects.

The final phase is Phase 4, in which NMAD will renovate the historic 21st Street lobby mezzanine to house the Read my Pins: The Madeleine Albright Collection Exhibition. The exhibition is on loan to the National Museum of American Diplomacy and will be donated to the museum upon completion of the gallery space. The room will also contain items from the Madam Secretary TV series (2014-2019).
