Safety warning: Prohibited items
All visitors and items brought into the embassy or consulate are subject to a full search.
For security reasons, visa applicants and US citizens are not permitted to enter the embassy or consulates with the following items:
- Mobile phones and other electronic devices (including but not limited to smartwatches, fitness trackers, tablets, laptops, headphones, cameras, Bluetooth tracking devices and other recording devices),
- Any sharp objects (scissors, penknives, nail files, etc.), weapons or explosive materials of any kind,
- cigarettes/cigars/matches/lighters,
- Sealed envelopes or packages, or
- Liquids/food (except small quantities for babies/toddlers or medically necessary applicants in plastic containers (not glass)).
- Pets
Bags, other than a small handbag or equivalent, are also not permitted.
On days when it rains, applicants may bring a small, folding umbrella without sharp tips to the consular security checkpoint. Large umbrellas are not permitted.
Neither the embassy nor the consulates have storage facilities.
We strongly advise you not to bring any of the prohibited items mentioned above. If you need to bring these items with you, there are private companies that will provide storage facilities for a fee. These companies are not subject to sanctions by or otherwise affiliated with the U.S. Government, and the U.S. Government assumes no responsibility for the items in their custody.
The embassy/consulates are closed German and American holidays!
We thank you for your cooperation.
