Follow these steps to make your vote count in the 2024 U.S. federal election:

  1. Request your ballot: Complete a new Federal Postal Card Application (FPCA). You must complete a new FPCA after January 1, 2024 to receive your ballot for the 2024 election. Filing the FPCA allows you to request mail-in ballots for all elections for federal offices (Presidential, U.S. Senate, and U.S. House of Representatives), including primaries and special elections in the calendar year in which the FPCA is filed. All local election officials in all US states and territories accept the FPCA.

You can complete the FPCA online at gov. The online voting assistant asks you state-specific questions. We encourage you to request electronic delivery of your blank ballots (via email, Internet download, or fax, depending on your state). Enter your email address into your FPCA to use the electronic ballot delivery option. Return the FPCA following the instructions on the website. The Online Election Assistant will tell you if your state allows electronic return of the FPCA or if you must submit a paper copy with an original signature. If you need to return a paper version, please follow the same instructions below for returning your ballot.

  1. Receive and fill out your ballot: States must distribute ballots 45 days before a regular election for federal office and generally mail ballots at least 30 days before primary elections. Most states allow you to confirm your registration and ballot delivery online.
  2. Return your completed ballot: Each location in the United States has different deadlines, rules, and procedures for absentee voting. For specific information, visit your local election office website.

Electronic ballot return: Some locations allow you to return your completed ballot electronically. Check your local election office’s website to see if you can return your ballot electronically.

Send your paper ballot directly by mail: If you use PostNord, GLS, Posta or Tusass, you must apply sufficient international postage and allow sufficient time for international mail delivery. Ballots sent via regular international mail from most countries take two to three weeks to reach local election officials within state ballot receipt deadlines. You can also use a private courier service.

Return your ballot via the embassy: You can also return your ballot via the embassy. We forward ballots weekly across the United States. You should expect it to take two to four weeks for your ballot to reach local election officials across the United States. The US Consulate in Nuuk cannot accept ballots.

  1. Place your ballot in stamped envelopes or envelopes with sufficient U.S. postage.
  2. Address the ballot to the appropriate local election officials.
  3. You can either mail the sealed envelope containing your ballot to the embassy or drop it off between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on any business day. The embassy is closed on all public holidays in S. and Denmark. If you want to send the sealed envelope to the embassy, remember to use Danish, Greenlandic or Faroese postage.
