Apply for the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship!
We are looking for committed young leaders who are currently in high school to participate in the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship 2024 this summer! The fellowship is a fully funded four-week State Department program for young Europeans to learn about the United States, youth engagement, democracy and civic engagement, and economic prosperity.
The program will take place from June 22 to July 20, 2024 at Purdue University, Indiana.
What is the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship?
This scholarship is an intensive, short-term exchange program aimed at building relationships between young Europeans and Americans in order to build strong connections and an awareness of shared values. The four-week program allows teenagers ages 16 to 18 to learn about U.S. foreign policy priorities such as youth engagement, support for democracy and civil society, and economic prosperity. The program consists of a series of lectures, seminar discussions and presentations, as well as a wide range of practical lecturer- and mentor-led workshops. Course and classroom activities are complemented by community service activities, site visits, social and cultural activities, and homestays with American families to deepen participants’ experiences with U.S. society during their exchange.
During the academic stay, participants also have the opportunity to discuss other topics such as democratic practices, conflict resolution, problem solving, communication skills, critical thinking, tolerance and respect for diversity, youth leadership, team building and media. The institute will examine how freedom of expression gives citizens rights and imposes responsibilities.
The exchange is fully funded and the US Embassy Sweden will assist the selected participant with travel and visa applications. A personal visa interview in Stockholm is required for the visa application.
