In a heartfelt message, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken extended his warm wishes to Muslims around the globe on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, while expressing his empathy for Muslims enduring challenges worldwide.
Blinken stated in a press release on the official website of the US State Department, “I wish Muslim communities everywhere a blessed Eid, and share in their hopes for a world that is safer and more peaceful.”
He added, “As families and communities come together, we know they do so at a time when many Muslim communities around the world are suffering. Our thoughts are with the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, civilians in Syria, women living under Taliban rule in Afghanistan, and the Rohingya in Burma and Bangladesh.”
Blinken emphasized that many have lost loved ones over the past year, and others are anxious about the safety and security of their families today.
He expressed hope that this Eid al-Fitr would be a moment on the path towards a future of greater hope, freedom, and peace.
Blinken affirmed that the United States is committed to defending human rights worldwide, providing humanitarian assistance where it is most needed, and working towards lasting peace, dignity, and safety for all communities.
