Bridging Cultures: Korean Embassy Celebrates Ramadan Iftar with the White Hearts
Fostering Friendship and Inclusion through Cultural Exchange and Performance
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea was illuminated with warmth and festivity as it hosted this year’s Ramadan Iftar event on March 28 at the Ambassador’s residence in Maadi. Gathering esteemed guests from diverse backgrounds, including the renowned White Hearts, students from Ainshams University, and the 2024 Egypt-Korea Digital Supporters, the event symbolized the spirit of Ramadan – a time of love, compassion, and unity.
The White Hearts, established in El-Mahalla in 2017, represent a beacon of hope and inclusivity in the Egyptian community.
With a mission to revive traditional Egyptian dance and support artistic endeavors for individuals with disabilities, the White Hearts comprise around 100 remarkable individuals with pure hearts and exceptional musical talents.
Despite facing challenges, they became the first team of people with determination to compete globally alongside non-handicapped teams, winning accolades such as first place at the International Children’s Festival in 2023, which attracted participants from 48 countries. At the Embassy event, the White Hearts captivated attendees with their mesmerizing performances of traditional Egyptian dances, showcasing their talents and spreading joy.
Following the soulful Iftar, Ambassador Kim Yonghyon extended his heartfelt appreciation for the enchanting folklore performances. He emphasized the Embassy’s commitment to fostering friendship and understanding among diverse communities, highlighting the significance of Ramadan as a time to embrace differences and strengthen bonds of camaraderie and love. Guests were treated to a delightful array of Korean dishes, including Bulgogi, Kimbap, and Jeon, alongside local delicacies, adding to the cultural exchange experience.
Khalid Kunida, the esteemed head coach of the White Hearts, expressed gratitude to Ambassador Kim for the invitation and the opportunity to share their artistry with a wider audience. He lauded the team’s international achievements, which are a testament to their unwavering dedication and perseverance in training.
This event marked the second occasion where the Embassy celebrated Ramadan with the White Hearts, reflecting a commitment to ongoing collaboration and mutual respect. As the Embassy looks ahead, it eagerly anticipates further opportunities to collaborate with the White Hearts and explore new avenues of cultural exchange and cooperation, fostering an environment of inclusivity, understanding, and appreciation for diversity.
