Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, has outlined plans to leverage the pentahelix approach to develop tourism and the creative economy in the new Indonesian capital, Nusantara (IKN).
Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday, Uno stated, “To stimulate developments in both the tourism and creative economy sectors in IKN, we are adopting a strategy aimed at sustainable and high-quality tourism through the adoption of the pentahelix approach.”
He explained that the pentahelix approach enhances collaboration among academics, media, the central government, regional governments, companies, and local communities.
Uno revealed plans to convene meetings of both the tourism and creative economy communities, encouraging their active participation in the development of the new capital, currently under construction in East Kalimantan.
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy will spotlight the attractiveness of tourist and creative villages in Nusantara to enhance environmental sustainability in both sectors.
He noted that the government envisions Nusantara as a distinctive tourist destination, developed akin to a forest city that places great importance on high-quality and sustainable tourism activities.
“The trends in tourism and the creative economy in IKN will emphasize concepts of quality and sustainability,” he said.
Uno suggested that travelers visit IKN to enjoy the tourist attractions offered by various destinations, such as the cultural village of Bambang, which provides beautiful views of the tropical forest and traditional houses, and Tanah Merah Beach, characterized by white sands and pine trees.
He also mentioned Mentaur Mangrove Village, Mahaling Tourist Village, and Tabak Raja Cave as attractive options for visitors.
