by: Fatima Badawi
Dar Al-Ifta Al-Misriyyah (Egyptian House of Fatwa) successfully concluded a specialized training program on “Fatwa Methodology” for a group of Sharia scholars from Indonesia. The program, held at Dar Al-Ifta’s training center in Cairo, is part of the global efforts coordinated by the General Secretariat of Fatwa Houses and Religious Bodies worldwide, in collaboration with the Embassy of Indonesia in Cairo, on behalf of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs.
During the program, participants were introduced to the methodology of issuing religious edicts (fatwas), trained in the art of fatwa craftsmanship, and equipped with skills to engage with prominent ideas and extremist ideologies. The aim was not only to prevent the spread of such ideologies but also to empower the participants to actively contribute to religious institutions in Indonesia upon their return.
Dr. Ali Omar, Head of the Sharia Affairs Sector at Dar Al-Ifta Al-Misriyyah, welcomed the Indonesian scholars on behalf of the Grand Mufti and highlighted the institution’s multifaceted role, particularly in training foreign scholars in the science and art of issuing fatwas.
The ceremony was attended by officials from the Indonesian Embassy, including Mr. Muhammad Za’im Al-Khalis Nasution, Deputy Ambassador, Dr. Rahmat Aminj Lasim, Media and Cultural Advisor, and Dr. Abdel Motaali, Educational Counselor.
In his address, Mr. Nasution expressed gratitude to Dar Al-Ifta for its efforts in hosting and training Indonesian participants, emphasizing the deep-rooted relationship between Egypt and Indonesia.
Dar Al-Ifta aims for this training program to be a cornerstone in promoting societal security, peace, and stability, and a step towards delivering authentic religious guidance while safeguarding communities through well-regulated and sound fatwas.
