Elina Ilieva, Digital Marketing Executive at SportsCover Direct, gives top tips if you’re planning a solo trip:
“Travelling alone can be intimidating as it is a new experience for many. You are in unfamiliar territory and adapt to different cultures. There is also the fear that something will go wrong in a foreign country. But bad things can happen anywhere, so this shouldn’t stop people from enjoying a rewarding experience.
Here’s how to adventure alone without fear and with confidence.
-
Do your research. Whether it’s researching the neighborhood you’re staying in, accommodation and activities, having all the information you need means you’ll be prepared for anything!
-
Make sure you’re covered. When you travel, it is always important to take out the right insurance for the activities you want to undertake. From kayaking to hiking, there are many sports activities that aren’t covered by your travel insurance policies – make sure you’re covered in case an accident happens while you’re away.
-
Find people with similar interests. Solo travel that matches your interests is a great way to find connections with similar interests while traveling – solo travel doesn’t necessarily mean traveling alone.
-
Stay somewhere with multiple positive reviews. Traveling alone can make you feel more vulnerable when you’re in an unfamiliar place. Before booking your accommodation, only stay in a place that has several positive reviews. The reviews usually give you an idea of the host, the neighborhood and the quality of your accommodation.”
